Jubal Prevatte

Jubal Prevatte's turned work is an exploration into the stories told by trees and the lands around them. Using only responsibly sourced timber, he wants to remind others of the importance of the trees and nature around us.Growing up in the woodlands of America, his early career was carpentry and cabinet making in Washington DC and later Portland, Oregon. After relocating with his partner Wendy to Worthing in 2023 he has focused on creating turned objects.

"I've dismissed the idea of mastering my craft or the material...instead seeking to allow the wood and it's stories be the master of me."

Sussex Craft Awards 2026 Finalist

Jubal Prevatte has been selected as one of 12 finalists for the Sussex Craft Awards 2026.

His work will be shown at Newlands House Gallery in Petworth from 20 June to 20 July 2026, as part of an exhibition bringing together some of the region’s most accomplished craftspeople.

Selected by an expert judging panel from makers nominated by the public, the finalists represent a wide range of disciplines, including ceramics, furniture, jewellery, woodcarving, basketry, millinery and mixed media.

Jubal’s work explores the forms, histories and character held within wood, allowing the material to guide each piece rather than imposing a fixed design upon it. Being selected for the awards is a welcome recognition of this thoughtful, process-led approach.

His work will be on display alongside the other finalists throughout the exhibition.

Tooth and Chisel

This June, Knepp welcomes Tooth and Chisel: An Exploration in Wood – a new exhibition by Sussex-based woodturner Jubal Prevatte created in response to Knepp’s beavers and the wild landscape they create. Running as part of Sussex Craft Week from (20 June – 2 July 2026), the exhibition explores the surprising parallels between human craft and the instinctive ways these animals shape their natural world.

Strandline

Strandline is an exhibition at Chintz & Wood that brings together three bodies of work shaped directly by Worthing’s coastline.
